It’s Great to Be Here.
I’m sorry, but is that banner just perfect or what? Judging from the other metblogs, I was wondering how we might go about capturing the Orange County essence in just one photo…
I mean, you’ve got New Orleans— classic French Quarter style, D.C.— Jefferson Monument and flowering trees, Orlando— the Epcot Ball.
Orange County?
Hear you guys got a lot of Starbuck’s ’round there.
Yeah.
If it is a joke– I’m laughing.
Anyway, I’m Rus Steel. And it’s great to be here.
OG OC blogger Grant Henninger actually took that shot. I think it’s half joking half serious – I told him I needed a shot that captured the Orange County feeling and I think this does just that. That’s what I think of when I think OC anyway… =)
Well given those marching orders, I’d have likely returned with the same shot. I love it!

Thanks Rus. I was driving around after Sean asked me to take this picture and I had no idea what to take it of. Then, while getting lunch I noticed this Starbucks and Cingular store in the same building and figured that would be perfect. I mean, in OC we are always on our phone and drinking over-priced lattes, right? Or at least that’s what the image of us is. So I figured that would be perfect. Glad others enjoy it as well.
Ouch – poor SoCal! As an LA girl, when I look at the O.G. of metblogs, I get a bit miffed, but am mostly resigned to the dumpster motif.
Then again, over at SF we have a bridge (somewhat less predictably the Bay, rather than the Golden Gate, which is cool). We could as likely have a wide-angle of a homeless encampment in Golden Gate Park – or lines outside a Mission soup kitchen – if you really wanted local flavor.
Great pic. Welcome to the fam, OC.
Thanks cd…when I saw the irvine-esque shopping center, I felt miffed until I remember that we don’t have a dumpster =)
If I recall correctly, this strip mall exists off State College and Chapman in Fullerton. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
You are quite correct. Right next to the Coco’s they have now torn down. I was getting lunch at this great Mexican place across the street when I took the picture.
I’m kind of proud that the metblog with a Starbucks in the banner isn’t Seattle.

What about Disneyland? or Newport Beach? or the Spectrum? Or maybe a picture of Orange Groves (if we have any left). Or maybe even an Orange Curtain? (The old joke about Orange County, “living behind the Orange Curtain” since we are so close, yet so far from L.A.)
The shopping center is a nice touch though. I used to stop and study there all the time while I was at CSUF.
Great site! I’ve been watching for this site to launch for the past few months and now finally, Orange County has a blog voice. Two things though: 1. There’s no link for general site feedback/conact info, 2. There’s no archive index.
