Henry’s in Fullerton
Earlier this week a new Henry’s Market opened up just around the corner from me, on Harbor between the 91 and Orangethorpe in Fullerton. If you are like me, and had never heard of Henry’s before, it is like Trader Joes or Whole Foods where they sell a lot of fresh and natural food stuffs. I decided to stop by there to see what they had and how it was, since it is now the closest market to my apartment.
Walking in, the first thing I noticed was that it was big. Much bigger than most Trader Joes. I figured this was a good thing, more food, more variety. However, it was quickly apparent that this wasn’t the case. They just provide more room to maneuver your cart. Which isn’t a bad thing by any stretch.
I didn’t notice anything too different in the store, except for the fresh nut and candy dispensers. They had a respectable selection of produce, but not more than the local Ralphs, and it didn’t look to be of substantially better quality. It did seem as if they had quite a bit of trendy ‘health’ food. Vitamin Water and 1.9 carb wine, which I thought was somewhat funny for a farmers market type place to carry.
Since it is a new store, it has one good thing and one bad thing going for it. First, there are some excellent sales going on, and they even have their ads online. Right now you can get 12 ears of corn for $1, Bartlett Pears 5lbs. for $1 and a 12 pack of Corona for $11. However, their cashiers aren’t as trained as one would like. They are slow and if they run into problems they have no idea how to fix it, so the lines are long.
Henry’s should make a fine addition to Fullerton, it will be a great place to supplement my normal grocery purchases. I look forward to shopping there in the future.

There is also a Henry’s in Yorba Linda right next to Tall Mouse and across from Starbucks.
My only rant about whole food markets such as Henry’s is that they never have cheap, MSG laiden, bags of Ramen. They only have the fancy, heathly, kind that costs $1 a bag.
That’s why you just go to normal stores for Ramen, or Costco or something.
Also, if you’re looking for fresh food, in Fullerton there actually is a Farmer’s Market down on Orangethorpe by Brookhurst. I’m not sure of their hours though. But up in North County I don’t know of that many open market type places.
We love Henry’s Market in Poway and wish it were closer to Rancho Bernardo, but we will a always use Henry’s for our shopping.
I have one comment, I understand that Henry’s can supply Energy Times Magazine free and would like to know how to apply. My subscription ran out and I failed to fill out a new order. Thanks and God bless Henry’s.
