Our very own Teacher Sex Scandal!

If you read the LA Times, you already know that the county’s been *rocked* (reg.) by news of a teacher-sex-scandal involving two or more middle school students:

Sarah Bench-Salorio, 28, was questioned at Santiago Charter Middle School and the Orange Police Department before she was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of multiple lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and continual sex acts with a child under 14, said police Sgt. Dave Hill.

The investigation was launched Monday when one of the boys told his parents about the alleged relationship with his teacher. The parents then called police. Detectives learned of the second boy during their investigation into the first case and said there may be more victims.

There you have it. Another young teacher alledged to be boffin’ her students. Will major media outlets pounce? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. [I know. I’m totally insensitive to the trauma–only, there was this French teacher when I was in middle school…]

But to make things even more interesting, get this:

Bench-Salorio is married to Christopher Salorio, 30, an electrical foreman who garnered 45% of votes but lost a bid for trustee in the Orange Unified School District in the November election.

And I know what you’re thinking–the answer’s no. He wasn’t running against Steve Rocco. But that does bring up another interesting question:

Just what is Steve Rocco gonna say about all this?!?

Stay tuned..

What seems to be wrong with guys OVER 18 that they are not attracting the teachers who seem to have a need for additional love, affection, or relationships outside of their marraiages? Some say it’s that they are afraid of “entanglements” with older, more demanding males. Other experts say it’s the “safety” or falling in love with students who sometimes persue them..(boys who also make comments and eyes at them) Other experts write that it’s because they’re not afraid of finding someone that could cause them to leave their families for. Most of the recently arrested female teachers have been young, attractive, and married. Kids when asked don’t seem to find it “wrong” that this has happened to their favorite teachers. (See the Rush Limbaugh interview with kids about this issue..a mind-blower if you are a parent!)On the other hand, years in prison ARE
one way that forces them to leave their families. I truthfully wish there were “mental or phsyciatric” prisons or hospitals where they could be held while awaiting trial, and be given help to face their actions and understand what they did was wrong. Many of them feel THEY are the victims after being arrested in front of their students, shackled, booked, strip-searched, photographed (nude for body evidence) and jailed. That’s why they need help. Immaturity, emotional distress, bi-polar syndrom, drugs (prescription or not) and just plain “lack of common sense” could be the cause, but today’s movies, songs, MTV, and general casual approach to nudity with “Girls Gone Wild” and “Hot For Teacher” TV shows DO NOT HELP show this is wrong and that they are child-molestors and need treatment and lifetime supervision. Also, in all fairness, these are ACCUSATIONS against those not yet convicted..who should be assumed innocent until PROVEN guilty in America. Releasing of certain details and informationcould prevent a fair trial for some, as in the Salorio and Lafave cases where the entire story from police reports is available on the web. What if a juror read those before ever thinking they’d be picked for that jury?

Um. In that case, said hypothetical juror would have to be a big-fat liar. You see, before you’re “picked” to serve as a juror, you’re asked if you’ve heard anything about the case — if the answer is:

“Yes, I read some snarky comments on the OC Metblog.”

You’re out — usually. High profile cases tend to be a little different. Especially, when the general public is totally inundated with media commentary. In such cases, it’s damn near impossible to find someone who hasn’t heard something about the matter. So, jurors are usually asked if they feel they can still be impartial given the information they’ve already consumed.

I guess, I’m confused by your point. Are you saying that police reports shouldn’t be available to the public? Or that reporters shouldn’t make their articles available on the web? Or just that snarky metblog authors should stay out of legal affairs and stick to restaurant reviews? (I’m inclined to agree with the latter!)

Is Bench-Salorio still in jail or have they got her waiting for trial in a mental ward? That might help her face up to her actions and help her realize that she committed a crime…not that the system committed a crime against her by holding her in jail so long until her trial.

Uh, I dunno. I would have guessed she was out on bail, awaiting trial. Could be she’s locked up somewhere. I really don’t have the information.

Yep. Learned she’s still in jail as of today. They keep canceling her pre-trial hearings for whatever reason. Robert Blake talked about being in “jail” versus prison while a person waits for a trial. He said no TV, not allowed out of cell for excercise or visiting. He say’s you’re kept drugged to keep from going crazy waiting for trial. He said in prison you get out for meals, visits, excercise, library, worship, etc.but not in jail..even for the year he was held. It’s obvious that Solario needs mental help (probably WAS crazy in the first place to do what she is accused of).
The e.mails they released from her to her victims make it hard to see she had no involvement with them..like Debra Lafave with the telephone tapes and in-store surveilence cam pics with her victims. Does anyone know if her hubby got the children back? Or if he left her? Been now word on that
