Because it’s Saturday and there’s nothing else to do

As a follow up to Jill’s post on Big Lots in Anaheim Hills, yesterday morning there were quite a number of protesters in front of the shopping center with signs reading such witty things as “No Big Lots”. I wish I had a picture of them, but by the time I got back they were gone.

Of all of the things to rally behind and protest about, this is a humorous cause. It’s not like they are working to fight hunger, or George W. Bush, or some other worthy cause, they are fighting against Big Lots. Now, I don’t want a Big Lots in that shopping center either, I think a Henry’s or Whole Foods would be much better. However, I wouldn’t go out and protest it.

Do you think there might be a racist element to the protests? Or at least economic bigotry? I know plenty of people wouldn’t want “that type” that’d shop at a Big Lots in their neighborhood. Any idea what their arguments are?

Economic bigotry for sure. Same mentality that causes people to lose sleep over property values.
