OC Democrats Launch New Website

I’m pleased to announce our new website. It has been a project which has caused late nights, early morning meetings, and yes… working on the weekends to see this to the result that we have today. I’m particularly found of the Blog, Your Party, and Your City pages.

I’m not going to give too much away on how the site works, future plans, etc… so just consider this a tour of the new site. I’m even making a more formal announcement at the Truman Dinner this Saturday (Talk about getting a plug in). I admit the previous website lacked a lot of features that were key to winning and attracting volunteers, I did a lot of work on that site, but I was a one man band: Web Designer, Editor, Author, Poster, IT, and back-end support. When the election season rolled around it became a lot of work for just me to do so we found a way to automate a lot of the work. We did that and more and I’m psyched to see it working.

We have the new “Your Party” section which allows greater access to the leadership of the DPOC and it’s a great section to read the bios on the Party leadership. “Your City” has working links to all of the various cities in Orange County, city stats, and Democratic elected officials on each of the various city councils.

“Take Action” is a section that I’m particular impressed with (besides the Blog). Here you can volunteer, Intern, write letters to the editors, and join our sustaining member program. With a user account your e-mail address will be filled in for you making it easier to fill out the forms. Users can leave comments on the blog, suggest events, and even suggest news stories for the site.

This undertaking would not have been possible without the direction of Mike Levin and the work of Grant. Grant designed all of our pages and assisted us in trouble shooting with content and layout issues during our beta testing. Mike worked late into the night (along with myself) to add content, test features, and Mike even rolled up his sleeves by creating a majority of the graphics which you now see. We have plans for the future of the site, as it is built to expand and grow with the needs of the DPOC.

For the first time in our history we are now located at www.ocdemocrats.org. Our .net address still works and will redirect you to our new site. In the next couple weeks you will see the site that is located at the .org domain on the old .net. Both addresses will be our permanent home.

I was glad to be a part of this project and we will accomplish so much more in the future. This is the first step in making “The OC” turn blue.
