Another Reason I Like Santa Ana

They have banned Wal-Mart Supercenters. Woo hoo! Sweet Hephaestus what a good idea! Let’s hope the rest of Orange County follows suit.

Of course there is no telling what Garden Grove may do. This recent Times headline announced “Garden Grove seems ready to embrace Wal-Mart“. I just threw up in my mouth a little when I typed that. Apparently the City’s obnoxious red-light cameras have not generated enough currency to keep the struggling burg afloat and they think Wal-Mart is the answer. Only a desperate urban planner would ever believe Wal-Mart Supercenter is the solution.

I have strong opinions about Wal-Mart and have seen the harm the company does to communities of all sizes. If you haven’t had the occasion to observe the horror up close and personal, then check out WALMART The High Cost of Low Price. Yeah. Nice.

The reason you have such stupid ideas is because you are an idiot. Hope that clears things up for you.

Let’s ban all fast food places too, since they pay low wages and drive out businesses as well.

Got to love the trolls. They can never argue a point eloquently or with reason so they have to attack your post by calling you an Idiot.

That just sums up so much about politics in the OC.

Good job with the post Jon.

    In response to DanGarion:

Actually Dan, the fast food analogy doesn’t work. Let’s be clear, fast food corporations are not exemplary corporate citizens. However you cannot compare them to Wal-Mart in the way that you did.

    1) In Southern California many fast food jobs actually pay quite well. Many don’t pay low wages, but actually high blue-collar wages. Higher than casual dining restaurants (before tips) — higher than the average Disneyland Hourly Cast Member — higher than hotel maids – higher than retailer clerks — higher than, oh I don’t know, say, Wal-Mart?

    2) Fast food restaurants don’t drive away business, but rather stimulate business. Lets say I own a stripmall: I want quick service dining locations because it will attract other retailers to my stripmall. The more retailers I have the better business will be. The better business will be the more rent I can charge my tenants. Wal-Mart does not attract other businesses that do not exist within its own walls.

Let me make clear that I understand that fast food is often foul and disgusting and that fast food employees are not living high on the hog by any means.

I also understand that in a capitalist nation, Wal-Mart has a right to exist. Just as Santa Ana has the right to say that is not the kind of business their community wants/needs.

I can’t stand people who hide behind anonymous names to insult people. Cowards.

I give credit to Dan for disagreeing and not feeling the need to make up a fake moniker which incorporates bad grammar.

Debate is fine. Childish name-calling, not fine. I’m a mom, don’t make me give you a time-out.
