My wife tells me she doesn't like a having guns in the house. She asks me why I think I need a gun. She thinks it's paranoid, and juvenile, and she's afraid. She also reminds me every night when we go to bed to make sure the doors are locked. Is locking the doors paranoid? I just want to know. ;)

Gina, I'm glad to hear you don't have a problem with folks who are licensed to carry guns.

I'm more than willing to hear the answer as to how to keep people from keeping illegal guns, though. The problem with the left on this issue is you lump the legal, law abiding gun owners with the criminal owners of illegal guns.

You forget, however, that many left wing folks are also gun owners.

I am licensed to carry in 30+ states. I have never had to use my gun. Before I got my license, I always transported my gun in the manners prescribed by law.

I also have life insurance. I'm pretty sure I'll use it at some point, but only once. Buying a policy after I die, however, is not going to do my family any good. If I could FORETELL when I was going to die, I would wait until the appropriate time to buy my policy, but I can't tell the future.

So...I have one now.

And to you people who think that the legal issuance of guns and carry licenses spurs gunfights in the streets...take the time to educate yourself about CCW and get over it. It's not been happening in all the shall issue states, yet the cities who cave to your gun-grabbing are among the most dangerous in the country.

Gina,
Here is a link to On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs http://www.killology.com/sheep_dog.htm

Calling someone a Sheep is not an insult and calling your husband a Sheepdog is an honor to him.

I think you will really like this article and share it with your husband. I am sure he will like it as well.

Enjoy!

To me, guns are a Pandora's box that has already been opened.

Did I wish they had never been invented? Yes, like a lot of things.

But, they are here and wishing they will go away isn't going to do much.

Becca, I am not sure of your sheep/sheepdog/wolf analogy. I don't HATE the people you label sheepdogs, and I certainly don't count myself a sheep, which implies a certain stupidity and inability to think critically. At least when compared to the sheepdog, right?

Listen, my brother in law is a Sargeant who also carries around a gun. I don't begrudge him that. However, I was referring to recent incidents in Orange County where people who had no business carrying a concealed weapon in their car were apprehended by police. With all apologies, people like my brother in law, and my husband, who is also in law enforcement, are the real "sheepdogs" if I can be allowed to use the analogy.

Which I probably shouldn't because I didn't agree with it, but there you are.

Thank you everyone, for keeping the debate a civil one.

"Guns are Stupid" huh?

Guns are tools. People are stupid.
Just like any tool, Stupid and/or Evil people will misuse it. So it is up to all of us to be sure we do not fall victim to these people. Rest assured, if guns didn't ever exist, criminals and miscreants will find a way to terrorize, harm and kill the innocent.

While I personally did not get the "memo" about people "illegally" carry weapons in their vehicles I would like to say this...
I am a woman, a gun owner and I posess a permit to LEGALLY carry my weapons concealled on my person. That's not just in my car, but everywhere I go. The supermarket, the hiking trail, the Mall, etc. If people are truly breaking the law by improperly transporting firearms in their vehicles then they are stupid, but their guns are not.

Do not forget what Retired Lt. Col. D. Grossman said about Sheep, Wolves & Sheepdogs. The majority of people are Sheep, meaning they are good people that would never harm another. However, there are Wolves that want nothing more than to harm and kill the Sheep. The Sheepdog hunts the Wolf and protects the Sheep. The Sheepdog has a propensity for violence against the Wolf and a deep love of the Sheep. The Sheep HATE the Sheepdog because they look like the Wolf, until the Wolf comes hunting, then the whole flock will try to hide behind a lone Sheepdog.

I AM A SHEEPDOG! If any of you on this blog that hate guns is being attacked by the Wolf when I am around, I will protect. On that day I hope you re-think your position on guns.

Thank You!

Jon,

We are clear, guns are stupid. As a gun owner I agree. Guns ARE stupid. Worse, stupid is defined as "Slow to learn or understand; obtuse," guns are not slow to learn, they DO NOT LEARN. They are not stupid, they have no intelligence of any kind. Guns ARE stupid, cars are stupid (30,000 - 40,000 deaths per year), swimming pools are stupid (1334 drownings in 2001), cigarettes are stupid (100,000 - 500,000 tobacco related deaths / year). I could go on and on with what is stupid. Keep in mind that a gun is only as smart as the intelligence controlling it (or not.)

Some statistics for everyone: (based on 2001 CDC statistics):
You are 4 times more likely to burn to death or drown
17 times more likely to be poisoned
19 times more likely to fall to death
53 times more likely to die in a car accident

You are between 15 and 20 times more likely to die from medical malpractice than from an accidental
firearms discharge.

Thanks for reading...

Gina, duly noted. It's just that often there is a belief that ANYONE with a gun is a menace. Law abiding gun owners, and particularly those with Licenses to Carry Concealed Weapons, are usually the first to avoid situations where there might be trouble. Folks keeping guns in their vehicles without the authority to do so are just asking for some Bubba time courtesy of the County of Orange. Or a ride in a coroner's van.

In Orange County obtaining the legal right to carry a concealed weapon is a very reasonable process. Most any law abiding citizen who can establish good cause within a very accepting framework, is willing to go through the federal and state background checks, and get trained in both the use of firearms and the legal ramifications of their use is likely to be issued a CCW License. Law abiding residents literally have no reason to carry illegally when they can do so legally with a little effort on their part.

What's a 35mm look like"

Oh, yeah, let's forget about the over 3000 CCW holders issued in OC alone. People who pass vigorous checks to gain this access to the permit.

Peter, I am not really referring to people who have been approved to carry a concealed weapon.

I am talking more about people who carry them in their cars illegally. Criminals, or people who are capable of shooting you for cutting them off and such.
