CityFacts: Brea

And now we move on to the City of Brea, which was incorporated in 1917.

The city got its start by being rich in oil, and in fact the word “brea” is Spanish for “tar.”

They are truly excited about a clock and sign on Birch Street. Go here for their explanation.

Brea has a 6,300 square foot art gallery known simply as The City of Brea Art Gallery.

Go here to find out that people seemingly come to the City of Brea to find the La Brea Tar Pits. Enough people that they felt they needed to put it up as an FAQ. Thinking about that though, isn’t the name “La Brea Tar PIts” very redundant?

Man, it was like pulling teeth to find anything interesting about Brea. Perhaps I could have found out more, but I really don’t have all night.

But, their city motto is “Beautiful Brea” which may or may not be true, but is at least short and to the point.

Brea’s so far north that I forget it’s OC sometimes. Poor Brea.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the developer of the Brea mall pay to build the Brea Civic Center. I heard that rumor somewhere.

They have an absurdly large mall, that’s for sure. Even weirder, it’s upper level is carpeted.

Additionally, the Brea Dam is not part of their city. Oddly enough it is located in Fullerton. There is no dam, no tar pits and you won’t find a La Brea Bakery their either.

Well, “The Tar Bakery” sounds rather unappetizing, doesn’t it?

I went to the Newport Beach Film Festival two years ago when they featured the movie “Crash”. I had a good time, so if you love movies you should check out the newport beach film festival.
