Chimayo: A Lot of Money, But Worth It

We had brunch at Chimayo at the Beach in Huntington Beach yesterday. Chimayo tends to be the ugly stepsister in the relationship with Duke’s. I’d eaten at Duke’s a few times (who can resist that view?) and thought it was ok. The prices inflated, but again, that view!

Chimayo is downstairs, and you can sit on the patio mere feet away from the sand. They don’t serve a brunch buffet, as do many restaurants, but they have a brunch menu. I have to say I was a bit skeptical of the prices. Twenty eight bucks for a flat iron steak? But hey, I wasn’t footing the bill, so I went ahead and ordered their three course brunch for thirty two dollars.

I was expecting a rip-off because we all know that restaurants with certain locations can get away with quite a lot. But, I was very pleasantly surprised, as was everyone in our large party. Nobody felt they got something bad, and we were all happy with our individual choices.

And really, they have the most killer Brioche French Toast I have ever tasted, with your choice of maple or chocolate syrup. And for fourteen bucks, (it comes with sausage or bacon) it’s by far the best deal on the beach.

Gina gives Chimayo four out of five oranges!

I love that place! I also love that you can just go sit by the fire pit at night and have some drinks. Try their Mango martini! Voted best in the OC. Really good!
