“Music, makes the people, come together.”

Where exactly does one go in Orange County to find a large and diverse selection of music? Ever since Tower went out of business I have been sort-of lost. Do I really have to go to LA for my Electropop and Eurodance music needs?

Case in point, I popped into Virgin Mega Store looking for any album or single by the astoundingly tasty Mr. Calvin Harris and they had nothing. Squat. Nada. Zilch. Zip. They had plenty of Spice Girls and Dave Matthews but were pretty light on variety and imports.

So, riddle me this? Where oh where has all the music gone? In Tower’s absence there must be somewhere in OC that has both a quantity and variety of music to choose from. At some point I am going to become desperate and start shopping at the music rack inside of Starbucks. ((Gasp!))

So, I went to the fair…

P8030027I’m always back-and-forth on the fair. Some years it’s all dirty and expensive, and other years, like this one, I have an amazing time. I think the difference must be my frame of mind. We got there mid-day on Friday (before the evening crowds), and did the whole thing very leisurely – saw the animals, went through the shopping buildings, saw the county exhibits, art and photographs, ate a few fried things, and just enjoyed the evening. It helped that the fair wasn’t too crowded or too hot, and that the baby just sat and laughed the whole time.

We enjoyed some fried potato chip/wedges, a hand-dipped ice cream bar, a slice of pizza and corn dog (respectively), and a sticky bun. We also had our refillable cup from the Al concert, and that made drinks only $2.50 instead of $5.00. Nothing else we wanted to do cost more than admission either, so the evening wasn’t expensive. It’s nice to have a good time somewhere that you’ve had a bad time before. Some more pictures are available here.

Rat Flap

So there is a big to-do over the vermin infestation found by health inspectors at Angel Stadium. Go here to read the article at the OC Register if you haven’t already.

I’m wondering why, with 33 “major” violations over 2 1/2 years, the food concessions have not been shut down. I’m going to take a wild guess and say that most restaurants with that kind of record would have been shut down multiple times.

Why is the stadium allowed to play by different rules?

This is just one more reason Orange County should switch to posting the letter grades of eating establishments like Los Angeles County does. LA County doesn’t get a whole lot of things right, but that is definitely one of them.

Reason #4783 not to move to LA.

Take heed children, the end is near. Given that our Governor is a former Mr. Olympia, I suppose we all should have seen this coming. In a scene reminiscent of the Nixon-Presley meeting (okay it wasn’t that epic), Lou Ferrigno has been sworn in as a Los Angeles County reserve deputy sheriff. ((Shudder))

I know, I know this isn’t Orange County specific but blogging.la posts about OC all the time so I figure all’s fair in Southland news.

I don’t know about you, but this does not instill any confidence in LAPD. In fact, it kind of makes me feel safer knowing I am not in Lou Ferrigno’s jurisdiction. Just think about what would happen if you made him angry!

Kajiji Me

Orange County has a new resource for free ads a la Craigslist.

It’s called Kajiji and is brought to you by some powerhouse people, including the folks at Ebay. I perused the site, and found that it didn’t have nearly enough categories, especially for employment ads.

The search feature isn’t all that great, although the site looks nice and has a clean layout.
