Anaheim can’t get its act together…

Supposedly there is a “Nutcracker Festival” this Saturday (12/01/2007) in downtown Anaheim. There is some confusion as to what, when, where and how the event will happen. Or if it’s even going to be a “festival” at all – it might just be a “marketplace”. Is there a difference?

First there was this little press release:

Holiday Street Fair held at the Center Street Promenade. The celebration includes a tree lighting ceremony, rides for children, entertainment, food and a visit from some special guests. The event is sponsored by the Downtown Anaheim Merchants Association, the Nutcracker Holiday Committee, the City of Anaheim and the Anaheim Community Foundation.

Who knew downtown Anaheim even had merchants? I always thought they were a myth, like the sasquatch or J Edgar Hoover’s heterosexuality.

Now the release seems to be scaled back some with a “stay tuned for more info” message on the City of Anaheim’s web site. The event’s official site also says “More details to come…”

Uh? How much longer are we supposed to wait? This shiz is supposed to go down on Saturday? There are no times listed and no real evidence when one is supposed to show up to catch the tree lighting or even the esteemed Mr. Claus.

What kinda Mickey Mouse operation are they running here? If you have the nerve you can call 714-956-3586 for more details…

Anaheim’s Nutcracker Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Holiday act is together and ready to entertain all who attend in a variety of ways.

Presented by The Downtown Anaheim Association and a committee of volunteers chaired by Sally Feldhaus, the event begins at 12:00 noon and is over at 7:30. The official website, has a complete timeline and schedule shown under it’s calender of events section. Key times are Craft and food village opening at 12:00. Santa arrives at 3:00 as the train ride becomes available along with rockclimbing and the opportunity for children to play in snow. All these activities are FREE! Parking is FREE. Ther is also live entertainment during this time period including strolling Dickens Carolers.

At 5:45, the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony begins with a candlelight parade. Activities at the Tree include participation by local schools and local music groups as well a performance by The Anaheim Ballet. Guests can anticipate the Christmas Tree will be lighted during this period which will conclude at 6:45 – 7:00. All of this takes place on Center Street Promenade between Anaheim Blvd. and Harbor Blvd.

You can call 714-956-3587 if you need additional information.

Much time has been put into presenting this event to all who wish to attend. Come join us! You will see that Anaheim certainly does have it’s act together.

From what I could tell it was a wet, disorganized mess on Saturday.

And since when does posting your itinerary the day before and event qualify as having your shit together?

Sorry Joe, I stand by my original post.
