Five Bucks a Gallon?
Yesterday my husband and I went out to dinner, and had to stop off and fill up the gas tank on the way back.
Sixty three bucks! And we have a Honda Accord, not exactly a gas guzzler.
All these people with large SUV’s, I am curious to know how they are coping with the rising prices. Today oil just went up eight bucks a barrel, and prices at gas stations are changing mutliple times in a day, according to my sister. She drives to work from Huntington Beach, and she sees them changing the prices. She drives home from work, and there they are, changing the prices again.
Madness, I say!
And, do you think five dollar a gallon gasoline is in our future? Or higher?
And, and, where the hell are the electric cars? We would be first in line to buy one that wasn’t a super expensive Tesla. I thought they were coming out with a sedan, but it isn’t coming fast enough for me.

I know. It’s crazy. I have been riding my bike or taking the bus the 5.7 miles each way to work. For the bike, I get the exercise, it’s $0.00 a gallon, and good for the environment. As for the bus, it is not much more hassle than driving, only takes about an hour each way on a bad day, and it’s cheaper than driving.
I highly suggest either option.
I still keep the car for carpooling or long distances.
A part of me is all for higher gas prices. Kinda like charging for plastic bags. I have no problem forcing people to think about the real issues by attacking their wallets. (Well, that’s if they can see past the anger and "inconvenience.")
I wish we had real mass transit. You know like light-rail, mono-rail, sky trams, subways or streetcars.
Well I drive a New Beetle and it gets 30+ to the gallon and is still costs us 60 buck a week to gas up the car - and that’s with our carpooling.
I wish we had better mass transit as well. However there are many who don’t want to sacrifice their way of living to have trains pass through their neighborhood. It’s a shame too because. I’m guessing the majority of those who aren’t in favor of improving mass transit are well off financially while their votes hurt those who aren’t well-off the most.
At the moment I’m carpooling with 3 other OC guys to West LA. When it’s not my turn to drive I bus it down to our carpool location. Takes a little longer but I don’t notice any more. ;)
In agree that the mass transit needs to be approve. I was looking forward to the Centerline Project a few years ago until it lost the federal funding and the City of Irvine voted against it.
