Holidays in OC: Knott’s Merry Farm

[Evening in Ghost Town at Knott’s Merry Farm]

It’s holiday time in Orange County and that means the Theme Parks are going all-out as usual. Of course there is always Disneyland but Knott’s Merry Farm has been in the seasonal fray for a long time now. Some people don’t care for Knott’s at the the holidays. I’m not one of those people. I love it!

Don’t get me wrong, if you are going for some sort of Disneyesque experience then you are going for the wrong reasons. Knott’s has never been about the same things that Disneyland has. Yes, I know the coasters are literally taking over the joint, but if you cast your gaze into the original areas of the park you’ll find Christmas charm bursting at the seems. There’s something to be said for the soul of a place – the kind of mom n’ pop attraction that is almost a thing of the past. So if a big corporate christmas is not your thing then Knott’s may be just the holiday ticket you’ve been looking for. Yes, it’s quaint but I like quaint. Quaint is underrated.

Be sure and check out:

Snoopy’s Cool Christmas on Ice (Charles Schultz theater).
A Peanuts Holiday Parade
Christmas Crafts Village
Elf Mountain Log Ride
Camp Snoopy’s Winter Wonderland
Gift of the Magi (Bird Cage Theater)
A Christmas Carol (Bird Cage Theater)

I love that they theme the log ride for the different seasons.
