RIP Brandon Zucker

In 2000, four year old Brandon Zucker was trapped and crushed by the taxi cabs on the Roger Rabbit ride. He died today after being found unresponsive at his Anaheim home at the age of 13.

According to the LA Times, Brandon suffered severe brain injuries and never recovered.

I always find it horrifically tragic when people go on family outings to amusement parks, only to be injured or even die.  Any death or injury is tragic, but it always seems especially wrong when what was supposed to be a day of fun turns into what will forever be a day of sadness.

Rest in peace, Brandon.

Several years ago, when I was working on the ambulance, we stopped by the facility in Orange he was living/being taken care of in. While I didn’t see him, I saw a couple other kids there. It was my first experience with terminal kids and it was really depressing. I work for CHOC now, so I see terminal kids on a daily basis and have become pretty numb to it all, but I still pray daily that I never have to face what these parents go through.

I’m sad for his fate, but happy that his family can finally let go and he can finally rest. If there can be a good death, this is certainly it.
