Update On CHOC Update

Children's Hospital of Orange County Children's Hospital

Children's Hospital of Orange County Children's Hospital

CHOC is going to be making some big changes over the next 5+ years, and step one for the change was a name change. Apparently, “CHOC” was not descriptive enough, so CHOC’s Department of Redundancy Department came up with a new one, “CHOC Children’s Hospital.” For those keeping up with the acronyms, that’s “Children’s Hospital of Orange County Children’s Hospital.” Brilliant.

Following the “more” link will take you through some pics and descriptions of some bigger, more sensible changes coming to the hospital…..

The whole point of the changes CHOC is making, are to expand an over-crowded hospital, and to become a self-reliant hospital. At the moment, CHOC shares many services with St. Joseph Hospital across the street. These services include the Emergency Room, Lab services, Surgeries and Radiology that I know of.

The construction will include tearing down a large building on the corner of La Veta and Pepper, a parking garage between CHOC and that building and the construction of the new ER between the two. Construction on the ER has already begun and is coming along very quickly. Though, as someone who works in the SJO/CHOC ER, if what they’re building is the ER in it’s entirety, it is WAY too small. If I had to guess, I would say at least 30-40% of the 100,000 people we see every year are kids. Hopefully CHOC has a plan for this.

I managed to run over there and snap a pic of construction as well as a few crappy pics of the model they have of the new facility.
Enjoy! (You can use the clickafication of your mouse to make all pictures bigger)

Ha! I just noticed the redundancy in your post’s subject line! Funny! :D

    ha! you are so clever!

I find this name change bizarre. Why not just OC Children’s Hospital if people don’t understand CHOC. I think everyone understands what CHOC stands for though… maybe not? I might be an insider since I have walked in the CHOC Walk?
