Planned Parenthood to Formally Petition OC Board Of Supervisors

Dear OC Board of Supervisors:

Stop allowing your personal religious beliefs to inform the choices you are supposed to make on behalf of the general public!

Thanks a bunch,
Planned Parenthood

Of course, that isn’t what the petition says, but at least they are going to try and ask that the Supervisors reverse their decision to suspend a Planned Parenthood sex education contract on the basis of their personal religious beliefs.

An article at the Register explains a bit more, and then has this very interesting tidbit:

Supervisors had asked the county’s head lawyer to come make sure they could legally single out Planned Parenthood before making their decision permanent… County spokeswoman Brooke De Baca said the discussions about the issue are protected through attorney-client privilege, and she could not discuss the lawyer’s analysis further.

I was not aware that the actions of elected representatives in their government capacity were protected under attorney client privileges. There are apparently a quite the few differing legal opinions on this matter, with the majority of higher court decisions being in favor of transparency in the public sector.

Way to hide behind questionable legal excuses, OC Supes! And if the excuse of attorney-client privilege is indeed a legal one, I prefer my government officials to act a bit more ethically.

I am glad someone has the nerve to stand up to planned parenthood. It is becoming more like you are "anti" somthing is you reject them on anything. They are not GOD and they are not government. They do not deserve nor should they be allowed a free ticket to do whatever they please to do in our schools, courts, etc. They are by no means the conscience of America, or represent how America thinks.

Ok. I cannot keep my mouth shut on this one.

Planned Parenthood provides valuable healthcare services. If you are not aware of what those services are, please feel free to visit their website and educate yourself.

If you do not agree with Planned Parenthood’s mission, you do not have to support them, or use them, but they should be allowed to operate and offer their services, just as other organizations that may have differing viewpoints also are allowed to operate and offer their services.
