OC Supervisors Reject Planned Parenthood Application

Here we go again.

Based on rules they made up a couple of  months ago, the Orange County Board of Supervisors rejected the grant application for tobacco settlement money from Planned Parenthood.

It seems they rejected the grant on a technical issue concerning a nurse case manager, whom the Board claims would not be providing direct clinical care, and thus the application does not meet the requirements.

Uh, I’m going to guess that pretty much any program from any applicant is going to include incidental personnel such as the case manager.  Have you ever known a doctor to answer the phone at their clinic or hospital?

No, what I’m guessing is that Planned Parenthood’s application was gone over with a fine-toothed comb until the supervisors found something they thought could be used against them.

Here’s hoping Planned Parenthood sues the crap out of them.

As you know this post is like catnip to me.

I spent some time perusing the IRS Form 990 for 2007 (latest year available and a public form since it’s a tax exempt entity) and the total revenue was $85 million. The top 3 executives were compensated close to a million dollars. The President, Cecile Richards (daughter of former TX governor Ann Richards and former chief of staff to San Fran Nan Pelosi), was compensated $385,163 for an average of 33 hours per week. There’s additional income listed as different line items that I won’t bother to break-out here because you get the idea…pretty sweet compensation for a part time gig.

Here’s the kicker: Total money given to the OC/SB Planned Parenthood branch…$31,710. Lands with a thud doesn’t it?

OC/SB Planned Parenthood considers litigation against Orange County? Please. Spare me. Litigate against the mother company for inadequate funding if anything.
