Unkind Swines

Remember the swine fu? It never really went away, it’s just the news coverage that dissipated. The Register reports the number of Swine Flu related deaths in Orange County has recently climbed to 13. The CDC has released a ‘priority list’ of who should get the H1N1 vaccine first (when and if it become available). It’s the usual litany of old people and young people and their caregivers – the rest of you will just have to suck it up and endure the madness. My wife and I have both had it (in July) and I have to tell you, it is miserable but it’s not life-ending. You’ll survive… unless you’re number 14 that is… in which case you won’t.

As a public service, if you think you have swine flu I highly recommend you show up at (fellow Metblogger) Dave’s place of business and begin overreacting in a most annoying and overt way. After all it’s the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, ya know? :)

Ha! As a pregnant woman, I’m first in line, baby!

It’s definitely still around. I work in a similar place of business to Dave, but in L.A., and yeah, it’s ~300 feet from me as I type. Older people will not be a priority for this vaccine as they are presumed to have some immunity from a similar virus in the 1920s to 1950s. http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/acip.htm

    I hate you.

Our numbers are finally decreasing. For now. I hear West Nile is on the prowl. Shit.

I would like to submit that there has been no test to confirm that the author or his wife had the true H1N1 virus. What can be confirmed is that both were ill with flu symptoms ranging from stomach flu to traditional flu for a period of 10 days after completing travel to Hawaii.

Uh speak for yourself. My test came back positive.
