What’s wrong with this house?

I’ve already covered the generalities of my house hunting woes in this post. Now let me share my most interesting house hunting story.

I found a house on Redfin that I shared with my realtor and she set-up an appointment for us to see it. It was an REO property, but the price was right. I knew going in it would need sprucing up, especially when in the realtor comments section said “call listing agent before making offer.”

The house clearly hadn’t been lived in for quite some time as it was very musty smelling. The master bedroom carpet had a huge hole cut out of it. One of the bedrooms was covered in wood shake siding – seriously. You get the idea, a lot of cosmetic work. As I was walking through I was thinking what the disclosure would be … water leak? Mold? Lien for back taxes? Ground settlement issues? Issues with the HOA?

After I saw it, I liked the space and wanted my husband to see it too. My realtor called to find out what the special disclosure was. Have you guessed what it is? There is a hint in the previous paragraph. Find out after the jump.

Murder/suicide. And if you’re anything like my realtor and me we had the same realization at the same moment. Bedroom. We even commented on the carpet and wondered why a big hole was in it and why it was left like that and not replaced. However, like I said in my previous house hunting post, nothing is shocking when it comes to short sale or REO properties. So, while I thought it was weird, that there was a big hole in the carpet, I certainly didn’t go there. I was so freaked out after that. Word to the wise: make sure you find out what the special circumstances/disclosures are BEFORE you see the home.

Needless to say the husband didn’t go to look at it. However, apparently someone did buy it as it is currently off the market, most likely an investor. I’m sure there are a lot of people who would have no problem living there, but that’s just waaay too much bad juju for me.

For those of you that are interested in the macabre and want to do some investigating, the house was in Laguna Niguel. Believe it or not, it’s not the only murder/suicide there in recent years, but it’s not the famous one.

I could do it! I would just need to replace all the flooring in the home and then get a Wiccan or a Shaman in there to cleans the place and we’d be good! Course, I’m just a weirdo.
