I think it first went up after the November elections. Yes We Can! At first I thought it was just a sign showing their support for Obama, but as I read what’s below it, all I could think of was, “Wait, what?” Full Service Salon? So, they’re basically piggybacking on Obama’s campaign to advertise their services? Yes they can give you a new haircut, wax your legs, AND do your nails!

Piggybacking in advertising is nothing new, I know. This reminded of the poster spotted outside a hair salon in Venice, but this one just seemed … less witty and much more tacky.

I’ve been trying not to follow the Octomom saga, but it’s everywhere! Plus, I’m generally pissed off at the idea that any of our taxpayer money has helped her horde children, ESPECIALLY since she doesn’t consider the benefits she has been receiving as “welfare.” Sorry, honey, but the only reaction you got from me by going on TV with your perfectly manicured hands is one of anger.

So now she’s supposed to be in hiding, according to an OC Register story. I kept wondering what I would say to her, if I ever ran into her in person. Would I tell her that our own hospital bills from St. Joe’s and CHOC to deliver our SINGLE preemie child amounted to $126,000 and change — then ask her how she intends to pay for her bills to deliver her EIGHT babies? I would ask her if she planned on shopping her story to the media, knowing that it would be sensationalized, in order to earn money to raise her kids. Or did she just expect that the government will continue to bail her out? (Ha, everyone’s getting bailed out anyway, right?) Maybe she and her publicist (yes, she has one) are simply relying on the good will of others to donate funds and items. Don’t forget, their web site takes all major credit cards and Paypal! In these tight economic times, anyone still rich enough to help her raise HER children should at least receive updated letters and photos from her kids.

The Register reported this morning how Santa Ana Unified board members will likely vote on whether to reduce the credits students need to graduate from high school. SAU graduates currently need to complete 240 credits to graduate, and it’s being proposed to reduce it to between 220 and 230.

My first thought was that they’re making a move to make it easier to graduate in order to boost their number of graduates — after all, the article states that SAU had the lowest number of graduates in the county in 2008. However, it’s also interesting to read that SAU’s credit requirement is less than Irvine Unified’s, which is currently the lowest in the county at 215 credits.

I suppose the important thing is whether graduates are really getting quality support and education, despite the number of credits. If I were a parent of a student in SAU, I would want to know what classes will be cut or turned into electives; even with the reduced number of credits, will my kid come out with a well-rounded education from classes in math, science, history, language, art, music, and health? However the vote turns out, I hope the board always keeps the kids in mind, and not necessarily their statistics and standings.

Am I the only one in Southern California who feels constantly teased every time a Sonic commercial comes on TV? Whenever I saw the couple in their car enjoying Sonic grub, I wanted to scream in agony for not living in some place like Texas, where Sonic’s a-plenty.

Well today, I said ENOUGH! In truth, I have absolutely no desire to live in Texas, so thankfully there’s actually a Sonic right here in the OC.

In between errands, I drove up to the Sonic in Anaheim for lunch. I pulled into one of the open stalls; it was just about noon and it looked like I beat a small lunch rush. There’s a lot of choices, but I ended up going for a small burger, tater tots, and a cherry slush.

Overall, it’s a bit far to go for fast food, considering the many other options we have in SoCal. However, my curiosity has been appeased, and the next time I see a commercial for their deep-fried mac ‘n cheese bits, I’m definitely taking a trip to Anaheim.

Oh, and the cherry slush totally hit the spot on this hot January day. Chech it out for yourself: 1632 N. Lemon Street in Anaheim.
