OC Foodie Fest

This Saturday August 18, The Honda Center (The Pond) will be hosting the first ever OC Foodie Fest.  There will be 50 (yes!  50!!!) food trucks from all over in attendance!!  Tickets are cheap and selling out fast.  All the trucks will be featuring cheaper-than-normal tasting menus.  If you want to avoid the crowds a bit and get some perks, VIP passes can be purchased for $50.  If this will be anything like the LA Food Fest I attempted to attend last year, it will be bedlam.  They are capping ticket sales at 8,000.  BUT…..it should be tasty.

On a sad/wtf note:  Kogi BBQ and Grilled Cheese Truck will not be in attendance.  Oh well.

Help Your Local Future Nurses!! Eet Mor Chik’n

Hey interwebbers!  I have a big favor to ask of you.  Can you please eat dinner at Chik-Fil-A this Thursday night May 20th??  I am in the Santa Ana College Nursing program (if you didn’t know already) and we are having a fundraiser.

We will be at the Chik-Fil-A in Santa Ana:

3601 S. Bristol St.  Santa Ana, 92704

Between the hours of 5pm and 8pm.

Please come out!  We will receive 20% of ALL purchases!  No flyer necessary!

Please help.  Due to state budget constraints, the school has little money to give our department, and with no money, comes no spots for RN students, and with no space for RN students, there will be no RNs.

FREE Pinkberry!!!

Sorry for the last minute post, but I just found out about this. Pinkberry is giving away free small yogurts tonight from 5pm-9pm to celebrate their new Mango flavor!!

More info can be found here.

I’m not so much a fan typically, but maybe I’ll give this new flavor a shot since its FREE. Enjoy! Have a great weekend.

FREE Pancakes!!!!

Tomorrow is IHOP’s National Pancake Day!!  That means from 7am-10pm, go to participating IHOP restaurants and you can receive a FREE short stack of pancakes!!!

Being that tomorrow is also the opening of Captain EO, you can go get your FREE pancakes across the street from the Disneyland Main Entrance at the IHOP on Harbor, then head straight into the park to see Captain EO!  (And yes I called to check, though usually that IHOP does not honor promos usually, they WILL be honoring that promo.)

*Also a little tip: If you park at that IHOP, you can run into the park for a bit and save yourself the Disney parking fees. :-)

Tanaka Farms

A few weekends ago we visited Tanaka Farms in Irvine. We’ve been trying to support our local business with the added bonus of actually knowing where our food is coming from.

On one side you will see a produce “stand” stocked with fresh produce as well as honey, baked goods and jarred deliciousness.

On the otherside are the wagon rides thru the farm with family friendly information on how the fruits and vegetables grow.  You’ll get to pick your own and eat there.

See what else Tanaka farms has to offer after the break…

George’s Best Burgers: Simple honest burger dive in Anaheim

click to embiggen

This weekend I’m pretty much residing at the Anaheim Sport Center with my youngest who is in a basketball tournament.  The sport center is in one of the grittier sections of Anaheim (Anaheim Blvd and Cerritos).  What lightens up the trip is getting to have lunch and dinner over at George’s Best Burger’s.

George’s Best Burgers is a classic burger drive-in dive.  Its age is uncertain, but it is old, appears to date to at least the early 60’s.  It is in need of a new coat of paint but it is clean.  I firmly believe that the age of that well seasoned griddle and grill is why the burgers come out so frakkin’ tasty.  It is worlds away from the sterile main street of  “Downtown Disney” only a few blocks away and I like it that way.

Pink’s Now Open at Knott’s California Marketplace!

Pinks1.jpg

In case you have been living in a cave or under a rock or something, Pink’s is now open at the Knott’s California Marketplace (just outside the front gate of Knott’s Berry Farm). Finally OC gets to taste the legendary hotdogery without having to travel to Hollywood. Hooray! Wieners for all!

Pinks2.jpg

What you’re looking at is a super-colossal-giant Jalapeño dog with chili and mustard or as I like to call it: Delicious Death in a Bun! The menu here is smaller than the original but the food is just as delicious. See, this way you can have fried chicken at Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant for lunch and have this as a light snack later! Ha!

Pink’s OC is located at 8039 Beach Boulevard, Buena Park, CA

Help Your Local Nursing Students…Eat Rubio’s!

Hey kids.  I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this already, but I’m in nursing school at Santa Ana College.  (This is why I sometimes have lengths of time with no posts.  This stuff is HARD!)  This Sunday, November 29, we are having a fundraiser at Rubio’s in the Block at Orange.  Anyone who dines at Rubio’s from 11am-5pm, and shows the attached flyer, donates 20% of that order to help us out.  (If you don’t want to download the attached flyer, we’ll be handing them out that day too.)  So please, take a break from the T-day leftovers and help out some struggling students!  Maybe you’ll even see me there!

Fun Stuff to do in Orange County: Laguna Culinary Wine Tasting

Laguna Culinary Arts

Laguna Culinary Arts

One of my favorite things to do on the last Saturday of every month is go to a wine tasting at Laguna Culinary Arts in Laguna Beach. For $5.00 LCA offers one-ounce pours of eight different wines.

I love going because I always find the atmosphere so relaxing (warm mustard-yellow walls, airy and rustic), the wine good (an excellent way to try new and/or different wines), the cheese wonderful (a huge selection from all over the world) and the staff very knowledgeable (they always describe the wines and cheeses).

The "white" cheese plate

The "white" cheese plate

LCA always has a “white” and “red” cheese plate to compliment the wines they are featuring in the tasting. The cost is $12 for two-three people and $18 for a plate that serves three-four people. Wines by the glass and bottle are also for sale.

I’m not an oenophile, by any stretch of the imagination I just enjoy wine. Full Disclosure: I pick my wine based on what the label looks like. I know, I know that’s probably blasphemous, but whatever.

So  mark your calendars now for Saturday, November 28, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., which is when the next tasting will take place. Laguna Culinary Arts is located at 845 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, CA 92651 and their phone is 949.494.4006.

If you go or have been, let me know what you think. I hope you like it as much as we do.
