k’ya Anaheim

We dropped by the newish restaurant k’ya, at the corner of Harbor and Ball in Anaheim, with the intent of attending their fun/delicious Aloha Brunch. Well tough luck kiddies, they have canceled that indefinitely – a fact which this announcement at the OC Register failed to note.

No matter. We glanced at the menu and decided to stay for lunch anyway. It’s a good thing too, because it was a real treat. The menu was all “street food”, as in gourmet versions of the type of food sold on street corners around the world. Don’t bother looking at the web site’s menu because it’s outdated. Anyway, there isn’t a single item on the menu over nine dollars (but you would be best suited to order two items) because the portions are (not small but) of less-than-gigantic size. Think Cafe Tu Tu Tango – only way better!

I had Asian Chicken Salad and Loco Moco, my wife has Lobster Raviolis and a Walnut Cranberry Salad and we shared some fried asian dumplings to start. We washed that down with a couple of drinks were out the door for $32.00 (before discounts & tax)! Affordable and delicious! If you’re a Cast Member (or dining with one) you get a whopping 25% discount. The food was tasty, the atmosphere was outstanding and the wait staff was attentive. If I had one complaint it would be this: their menu is unique and really needs some explaining to first-time guests; this was something our waiter failed miserably at doing. Let’s hope they figure out how to explain their new diminutive portions and fun menu in the future.

How and why such an upscale place landed in the Anaheim Resort is a mystery, but it is a place I recommend you take out for a test drive! Yummy Yummy Yummy!

There is a picture of the fried asian dumplings after the jump…

It’s FREEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Free Jack In The Crack Tacos!

Bob’s Big Boy Coming to Orange

The ever informative Fast Food Maven has disclosed that the brand new Bob’s Big Boy at the Stadium Promenade (on Katella by the Honda Center) will open on August 9th!

Finally, no longer having to go to Baker or Burbank to have a double-decker combo!

Granted, their food may not be the most gourmet stuff around, but I have mucho memories of going to Bob’s Big Boy with my grandparents, where for some inexplicable reason, I would always have the Pappy Parker’s Fried Chicken.

What was I thinking?

What was your favorite meal from Bob’s?

I Went to the Super Fair…

And All I got was this lousy stomach ache. Of course, eating a batter dipped deep fried White Castle cheeseburger probably contributed to that.

I wasn’t going to go, as I have turned abstaining from the Fair into an art form but my friend Jamie somehow convinced me. I guess eating deep fried shoe leather seemed more appealing than a day of exercise in the fresh air at the beach. Now if you don’t mind I am gonna take my stomach ache and go to bed with my head hanging low – I went to the OC Super Fair and it totally kicked my ass.

It’s FREEEEEEE!!!! Free Hot Dog On A Stick!

Tomorrow Monday, June 15 is FREE hot dog day at Hot Dog On A Stick!!

Head over after work from 5-8pm! Yay!!!!!!!

It’s FREEEEEEEEE!!!!! Free Root Beer Float!!

That’s right folks! Sonic will be giving out FREE root beer floats tonight from 8pm until they close, which if I recall is midnight!

We here in Orange County are lucky to have 2 Sonics! There are NONE in LA. The only 2 “close by” are in Hemet and Apple Valley.

The Anaheim location is on Lemon St just north of the 91 freeway. There’s also a Mission Viejo location (which I didn’t know about until now) located at Jeronimo and Los Alisos.

So go get it! And while you’re at it, take a picture of yourself and upload it to their website. Your face could grace their home page! Ooooohhhh! :-O

OC Chick-fil-A’s Offering Freeee Snacks!

There is no need to make a purchase, which should be good enough for most of you right there.  The Register’s Fast Food Maven has given us the lowdown on the “snack schedule,” as it were.

Monday: 8-piece Nuggets

Tuesday: Waffle Potato Fries

Wednesday: Small Soft Serve Ice Cream

Thursday: Chick-n-Strips (3-count)

Friday: Fudge Brownie

It’s Freeeeeeeeeeeee Chocolate!

As part of Mars’ Real Chocolate Relief Act, consumers can visit, where each Friday through the end of September, the 1st 250,000 visitors can download a voucher for a full-size package of Twix, Dove, 3 Musketeers, Snickers, Milky Way, or M&Ms.

Take that Hershey! Who wants their cheap-ass chocolate anyway? With such a high limit of coupons being offered, there more than enough for everyone in Orange County to get their free-choco-groove on!

Can You Taste It?

It’s time for the Taste of Anaheim again. Actually this is the fourteenth annual Taste of Anaheim and it’s this Thursday! They have moved the venue to Anaheim Garden Walk this year, which is a good move. The place is half empty and they should make pretty good use of the unused space.

My favorite entertainment on the schedule is LIGHTS: The Premier Tribute Band to Journey. Holy crap how exciting is that? The web site says “LIGHTS infuses the air with electricity and ignites the crowd with energetic fire. Experience The Premier Tribute to one of the truly great bands in Rock and Roll… Journey.” Oh my… they will infuse the air? Sound dangerous.

They also have somebody called Oreo Divas performing and lets not forget Eli Mattson: Americas Got Talent Finalist. What a get! [smirk] Anyway, the cheesy entertainment and the large list of participating restaurants should be well worth the price of admission ($40.00 at the door).

Who wants to meet me there for some Journey induced madness? The big list of participating vendors is available after the jump.

It’s CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEAP: Baskin Robbins!!

Today is 31 cent scoop day! Go to any participating Baskin Robbins and get your 31 cent scoop!

Find your nearest store here. Unlike Ben & Jerry’s, BR actually has more than 1 OC location!
