OC Board of Supervisors- Running Scared and Reinstating Planned Parenthood Contract

As I have written about before, a few months back the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to rescind health education funding to Planned Parenthood, citing their religious objection to abortion as the primary reason.  Planned Parenthood, does, amongst ten thousand other things, peform legal abortions.   This is a small part of their overall mission, but was the issue that the Supes decided they were morally against.

Now, as the Register reports, they have had a surprising change of heart, and have voted to restore the funding to Planned Parenthood.  I have also referred to the legal counsel they were being given by county lawyers, and it seems that legally, the Supes didn’t have a leg to stand on.

So, now let us rejoice that fear of losing a lawsuit reason has prevailed!

Next order of business, vote the suckers out!

Carona Gets a 66 Month Stay in Club Fed

The wheels of justice have turned for former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona.

The Times is reporting that he has received a 66 month federal prison sentence for witness tampering, which translates into five and a half years for the mathematically challenged.

Somehow it seems like it would have been more fitting with an extra “6” doesn’t it?

The Rise of Politweets

Gavin Newsom is running for Governor. He made the announcement via Twitter. He’s got my vote! I know this is incredibly immature and completely inane but let’s face facts: Gavin is easy on the eyes. Not a (good) reason to vote for him but I think of it as an added bonus.

Tea Parties, Where the Fringe Comes to Play

If you’d like, go ahead and visit the picture slideshow at the OC Register of some of the various “Tea Parties” held at various locations throughout Orange County.

I’d like to point out that the vast majority of protesters were white and elderly.

Which would explain why they were completely unaware of what the term “teabagging” means.

What puzzles me is that the events were billed as “non-partisan” gatherings against government spending and high taxes.

So why the signs against Barack Obama? Why the signs saying that this is the USA, not the USSR, which is a large statement of the obvious, if you ask me. Is that supposed to be some oblique nod to socialism? Or communism? Or was the man just really, really confused?

Because I want to tell him that he looks old enough to collect Medicare, and if that ain’t a program that smacks loudly of socialism, I don’t know what is. Yet, I guarantee you there is no way in hell he would willingly give up his Medicare coverage.

So, all you people over 65 at these protests that are eligible to collect Medicare benefits, I call upon you to put your money (and my money, too!) where your mouth is and make the most patriotic anti-tax move of all.

Give up your Medicare.

Then ALL of our taxes will go down.

But, that will be a cold day in hell before that happens, won’t it?

Corona del Mar High School Sucks

Queerty picked up a story about how Orange County’s Corona del Mar High School has banned ‘Gay Characters’ in the Drama Department.

With all the shiz that is going on around the globe why are we obsessing over irrelevant crap like banning a play that features gay people when we should be obsessing over the x-rated pictures of Marlon Brando sucking a big uncut wang that just leaked. Obviously the link is NSFW.

Let them put on their play. Sheesh. Can’t we all just get along?

What a Purpose Driven Tool

Our esteemed friend David Markland up at the LA Metroblog was so kind as to create this video of Saddleback ass-hat Pastor Rick Warren making, well, and ass out of himself.

Essentially, the man has no credibility – and his goatee is just so delicious! Yummy (with a spoon)! In case you think David took the comments out of context here’s a link to the unedited Larry King segment and a link to Warren’s original statement on his site.

Dear Saddleback members: It’s time to put a muzzle on your mouthpiece. It’s YOUR church and YOU have the power to shut him up… or fire him… or boycott his church and all it’s related services. So many of his church members (ahem, that includes you Dave Share) tell me they don’t support his stance on this. If that’s true then I think it’s time to send him a message of love and tolerance by finding a new church. I know people disagree with me on some of my ideas about organized religion and the like. I am not saying don’t go to church, I am just saying put your money where your mouth is and go to a different one.

Santa Ana to Host Teabaggers this Wednesday

Santa Ana, that bastion of right-wingacy in Orange County, is set to host what is projected to be thousands of “teabaggers” protesting something along the lines of “too much taxes, too much government, wah wah waaaah.” Never mind that the federal government was expanded in an unprecedented manner by George W. Bush, not Barack Obama.

Let’s not confuse things up with facts, now.

And I have to ask, why, oh why would you name yourselves after something like this? It just goes to show it takes a special sort of person to embrace this movement.

So, apparently there will be some hootin’ and some hollerin’ going on, and I totally respect their right to hold a peacful, planned rally.

Just as they need to respect people’s right to flip them the bird as they drive by.

Planned Parenthood to Formally Petition OC Board Of Supervisors

Dear OC Board of Supervisors:

Stop allowing your personal religious beliefs to inform the choices you are supposed to make on behalf of the general public!

Thanks a bunch,
Planned Parenthood

Of course, that isn’t what the petition says, but at least they are going to try and ask that the Supervisors reverse their decision to suspend a Planned Parenthood sex education contract on the basis of their personal religious beliefs.

An article at the Register explains a bit more, and then has this very interesting tidbit:

Supervisors had asked the county’s head lawyer to come make sure they could legally single out Planned Parenthood before making their decision permanent… County spokeswoman Brooke De Baca said the discussions about the issue are protected through attorney-client privilege, and she could not discuss the lawyer’s analysis further.

I was not aware that the actions of elected representatives in their government capacity were protected under attorney client privileges. There are apparently a quite the few differing legal opinions on this matter, with the majority of higher court decisions being in favor of transparency in the public sector.

Way to hide behind questionable legal excuses, OC Supes! And if the excuse of attorney-client privilege is indeed a legal one, I prefer my government officials to act a bit more ethically.

Carona’s Appeal Denied

It seems that justice will be arriving on April 27th for disgraced former OC Sheriff Mike Carona.

A judge denied his appeal to overturn his felony witness tampering conviction.

I read somewhere that Carona could get up to six years for the witness tampering, and I have to say that I’m cool with that.
