FREE Outdoor Movies In The Park In Dana Point

Hey kids!  I wanted to share something special with you!  Dana Point has something they do called Movies In The Park. It is exactly what it sounds like.  You go out to Lantern Bay Park (which has an amazing view of the harbor by the way), hang out until the sun goes down and watch a movie!  And it’s FREE!!!  It is brought to you by the same folks who tried bringing Drive-In movies back to the OC Fairgrounds.  (I’m still mad it never took off.)

I first did this 2 weeks ago.  We watched Monsters Vs. Aliens.  As you can guess by the movie, this is a very family-friendly atmosphere.   Tonight they will be showing The Wizard of Oz.  I’ll be there!  Will you?  Look for me and say hi!

Be sure to bring a nice big blanket and some picnic items!  They have a snack bar where everything is $1 with all the proceeds going to charity.  Also, if you get there early enough there are 2 fire pits.  And please, if you are going to bring lawn chairs, please make sure they are not tall as a courtesy to the people around (behind) you.

I have also seen something for outdoor movies in Newport Beach on Saturday nights, but I don’t have much information on that.  But feel free to check it out and if it’s awesome, let us know!

Now That is Some Bad Luck for Kendry Morales…

The Angels’ top hitter Kendry Morales hit a grand slam in the tenth, allowing the Angels to win.

And what did they give him in return, you might ask? A thank-you card? A cake? A bottle of champagne?

Nope.  Too traditional.  Too easy.

How’s about a broken leg?

Angels Start 2010 Season With A Lit Halo

It’s no secret I’m Dodger Blue through and through. (I grew up just minutes from the stadium and used to have season tickets)  But as long as they’re not playing the Dodgers, I always enjoy a good Angels game.  Tonight was a very good Angels game!  It was the home opener for the 2010 season and boy did they put on a good show.  3 homers, with 2 of those being back-to-back!

Hopefully the rest of their season is as good as this.  Maybe I’ll even forgive them for making me sad in the pre-season freeway series……..Yeah, I think not.

Supercross Is Back!!!

Cleanin' up for a good time.

Cleanin' up for a good time.

OK, well, actually Supercross came back 2 weeks ago for the first race of the season.  But as they have for the last several years, they will be running 3 separate weekends out of Anaheim Stadium.  This Saturday is A2 (Anaheim 2), and it is sure to be a MESSY race!  With record rainfall this last week, the dirt in the stadium will be saturated to the core, meaning the mud will be flying.  It may be terrible conditions for the riders, but it doesn’t get any better for the fans!

If you’ve never been to a Supercross race before, it is a great time.  Check out my post from last year’s Supercross event for pictures and a quick rundown of what goes on.  Tickets are still available for A2 this weekend and A3 in 3 weeks.

Doooooooo iiiiiiiiitttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!! (I know, I’m lame.)

OC Roller Girls

OC Roller Girls

I was reading the (online) LA Times, and noticed a little blurb about the Derby Dolls of Los Angeles, and got to wondering if Orange County had its own league, or if we were too wussy to have one.

Turns out we are not wussy at all, and we do indeed have our very own OC Roller Girls, with team names like Huntington Heartbreakers, Back Bay Bombshells, and Wheel Housewives of Orange County.  I have apparently been extremely remiss in not knowing about their existence prior to this day.   They are all over, including Facebook, Twitter, and their very own blog.  They even have a calendar, with part of the proceeds going to charity.

They play at The Rinks on McFadden in Huntington Beach, and their first game this season is January 9, 2010.

Damn.  If I didn’t have a newborn, I might have thought about joining!

Angels v. Yankees

angelsyankees

Let me begin by saying I grew up as a Dodger fan.  I was born and raised in the LA area and my family had season tickets for about 15 years until Fox bought the team and jacked up the price and actually physically moved what were once fantastic seats.  Instead of being five rows from the field between the opposing team’s dugout and home plate, we somehow wound up much closer to first base and more like 30 rows from the field, and all for a bigger price.

When Fox took over the Dodgers, that sort of soured me on the team, and my loyalty has never managed to recover.  To go from the O’Malleys to soulless Fox was wrenching.  It also probably didn’t help that I had met my husband-to-be, who also hated the Dodgers, despite also having been born and raised in LA County.

Oh, you must be thinking, he was an Angels fan, right?

Wrong, he was an unabashed Yankees fan.  When he was a young lad of 12 or so, Don Mattingly of the Yankees was at his peak.  My young-version husband latched on to good old Donnie and has never let go of the Yankees.   Which is ironic because Don Mattingly is now a hitting coach for the Dodgers.

But, as you can see, my husband was no fair-weather Yankee fan.  They have always been his team, and by default, they became mine.

So you’ll have to forgive me as I am gleefully watching Guerrero struggle at the plate, and thanking the stars that the Angels have made so many defensive errors.  I mean really, Angels fans, they’ve been especially horrible in the field so far this series.

We are also fully aware that the Angels usually have the Yankees’ number, having a winning record against them that normally sends us home packing.

So, may the best team win.

Angels Organization is LAME!!!

I am watching the  11:00 a.m. news on ABC7, one of the perks of working part-time, and they just did a story about how you can’t tailgate in the parking lots at Angels stadium. Wait, let me clarify … you can tailgate, but you can’t drink alcohol. What!?! But here’s where it gets really stupid. There was a private lot across the street, that charged the same as the stadium, that did let you booze it up. However, the City of Anaheim shut it down for the playoffs citing zoning violations.

As a huge sports fan I take offense to this. Tailgating, with alcohol, is part of the experience. Of course there are always people who drink too much and become belligerent and want to start a fight with anyone for any reason, but that can happen anywhere.

What everyone needs to remember is tailgating is about celebrating the commonality that is your team, which makes it a community. When you have a shared community you have respect, or should have, and that means respecting your fellow fans and the fans of the other team. I’m all for good natured ribbing of the rival team especially if they come into your stadium all decked out in their teams gear. It’s expected and if you don’t know this you’re very very naive. Remember though, mean-spirited barbs and violence is never appropriate.

Okay, end of my rant. Do you guys agree with me or the City of Anaheim?

Unfortunately, I can’t imbed this particular video from the ABC7 website (it was shot earlier than the live shot I saw), but click here to see the video/story.

We’re Everywhere!

So, I was at my local Ralph’s the other day getting fixin’s for sandwiches. As I was waiting for my stuff at the deli counter I looked to my right and saw this …
