Let’s face it. Gas wars or not, Americans like trucks. While many Americans own them as a necessary tool for their occupation, there are plenty who also own a truck because they like how it looks or the size or they enjoy going off-road on the weekends. I fall into the last category. Actually, I think I fall into all the categories. When I owned my truck, I used it to haul my DJ equipment, I loved how it looked, I liked being bigger than most other vehicles and I LOVE to go off-road! The only problem is, for that last group, the off-road enthusiast, there really have never been any truly off-road capable trucks you could buy off the dealer’s floor. Sure there was the Hummer, but who has $100,000+ to spend on something that’s not even really capable of being a daily driver? How can we get our off-road fun toy without spending many thousands of dollars on conversions, just to make the thing unbearable to drive to and from work??
Thankfully, Ford not only heard our calls for help, but they decided to spoil the hell out of us. Drum roll please…..ladies and gentlemen, I present my new obsession……The Ford F-150 Raptor.

Bringin' the Orange to the County
I highly suggest you follow me past the jump for more pictures and information that will make many of you want to run to the nearest Ford dealership. Yes, really! (more…)

No matter what your view is on the war(s), my hope is that EVERYONE supports the men and women who fight daily for the safety of our (and others’) country. I personally have several friends who have been/are now overseas, and any little piece of home they can get, they cherish. Well it appears our local Starbucks in Anaheim and Orange (maybe others elsewhere too) are sending them some coffee to remind them of what’s on every corner everywhere in America.
Here’s the deal: You buy 1 pound of coffee to send to the troops, and they will give you a free tall coffee for your trouble! It’s a win-win! So help out the good people trying to do good overseas and do it.

Change4Homless meter
The other day I was walking on PCH in Laguna Beach and I saw the above meter against a wall. Upon further investigation I realized it was part of a program the local businesses and residents have implemented to stop panhandling in the city. As I thought more about it, I realized that it has been a while since I have been approached for change when walking the downtown area. I am not opposed to helping those in need, but panhandling can get a little annoying, especially when they don’t believe that you don’t have any change. I have been challenged more than once, and most of the time I don’t, living off the debit card.
The program was launched last July and there are five parking meters that have been individually painted by local artists around the downtown area. The money goes to the
Laguna Resource Center, which provides assistance to the homeless, as well as low income families.
I personally think this is a great way to go about it, and it gives a passerby the option to donate, and the homeless person an option to receive assistance if they want it.

The OC Register just ran a story about how Disney/Pixar granted an Orange County girl’s dying wish to see Up. After hearing about Colby’s situation, Pixar sent someone to her house the next day with a DVD for a special in-home screening. Grab your kleenex before you click because this one’s a tear-jerker. I don’t have much more to say, mainly because I am a blubbering mess at the moment.

Dopey Dick Nixon
In 1955, Vice President Richard Nixon visits the less-than-1-month-old Disneyland Park in Anaheim, CA. Of the Seven Dwarfs whose names grace the cars in the “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” ride, “Slippery Dick” chooses “Dopey.”
Strong work Mr. Vice President.

That’s right folks! Sonic will be giving out FREE root beer floats tonight from 8pm until they close, which if I recall is midnight!
We here in Orange County are lucky to have 2 Sonics! There are NONE in LA. The only 2 “close by” are in Hemet and Apple Valley.
The Anaheim location is on Lemon St just north of the 91 freeway. There’s also a Mission Viejo location (which I didn’t know about until now) located at Jeronimo and Los Alisos.
So go get it! And while you’re at it, take a picture of yourself and upload it to their website. Your face could grace their home page! Ooooohhhh! :-O

Yes, friends, it’s that time again. Time to watch hundreds, if not thousands of yellow rubber duckies in the waters of the Pacific off the Huntington Beach pier. If yours is one of the first 50 that make it back to shore, you get a very special prize!
This fundraiser benefits the AltaMed Huntington Beach Community Clinic, which serves thousands of un- and underinsured patients every year.
According to the official website:
The Duck-A-Thon™ begins Friday evening with a Sunset Wine Tasting at the Pier. This beautiful setting provides as a wonderful kick-off for the weekend. Local restaurants supply an array of tantalizing hors d’oeuvres while wineries from across California donate boutique wines that are poured all evening.
The actual Duck-A-Thon™ takes place all day Saturday & Sunday. Vendors line Huntington Beach Pier Plaza to sell arts & crafts, yummy treats, home décor, jewelry and much more.
A larger – than – life Children’s Area includes bounce houses, retired rubber duck decorating, games, a toddler’s zone and prizes!
Sounds like a worthy and worthwhile event! You can even buy your duckies online at the official site! Race time starts at 3pm Saturday, but this is a three-day event.
