TCA loses appeal

Today the U.S. Secretary of Commerce upheld the objection by the California Coastal Commission that the Transportation Corridors Agency’s route of the Foothill/Eastern Toll Road Extension is “not consistent with the state‚Äôs coastal zone management program.” The conclusion was there are viable alternatives to the proposed extension, including a recommendation to have the extension end at La Pata in San Clemente, and surface streets be used to reach i-5 if needed. The TCA is free to pursue other alternatives, as long as they comply with the states coastal zone management program.
The Surfrider Fundation, based out off San Clemente, lead the fight opposing the toll road extension, citing the coastal impact at the famed Trestles surf spot.

I, for one, think the extension should reach farther into San Diego County. As we all know, if there is an accident on I-5 through Camp Pendelton, it can bottleneck traffic for hours.
