Bob’s Big Boy Coming to Orange

The ever informative Fast Food Maven has disclosed that the brand new Bob’s Big Boy at the Stadium Promenade (on Katella by the Honda Center) will open on August 9th!

Squeeee!

Finally, no longer having to go to Baker or Burbank to have a double-decker combo!

Granted, their food may not be the most gourmet stuff around, but I have mucho memories of going to Bob’s Big Boy with my grandparents, where for some inexplicable reason, I would always have the Pappy Parker’s Fried Chicken.

What was I thinking?

What was your favorite meal from Bob’s?

There’s also a Bob’s Big Boy in Temecula.

The double-decker and some fries. Nothing compares.

There are some places now called Big Boy and while the menu looks like the classic old Bob’s, the place is different, the food doesn’t taste the same. I went to one in Barstow, and was seriously disappointed (as if Barstow wasn’t bad enough). I don’t know what the background is behind these. I always thought the one in Burbank was independently operated.

Burbank is independently operated. In fact in the early 90’s, the owners wanted to shut it down and make it a Carrows because no one really ever went. All of us residents in the area signed a petition to make them keep it as Bob’s, but also to refurbish it (I think it may be a historical landmark now too). Since the refurb, that place has been hopping! Having lived most of my life 1 block from the Burbank location, I have been going there probably since I was in my mom’s belly, I went nearly every night throughout high school (it was our hang out). They used to have this super thick, almost soft serve chocolate shake called the Silver Goblet, because it was served in a silver goblet. That was ALWAYS my favorite thing, but they discontinued it sometime in the late 80’s/early 90’s. I’ve tried just about everything on their menu. My favorites are the grilled cheese, burgers and chili spaghetti (I know it sounds gross. I would not have even tried it had the staff not offered it for free. It became my staple.)

I have seen the new location for the Bob’s. it looks like it will be a Johnny Rocket’s sized location. Hopefully they can make it work. If they’re smart, they’ll have the weekly car show like Burbank does. In Orange, where the hipster/rebel/greaser style is alive and well, the car show could be a HUGE draw and money maker for all the businesses in the area.

I didn’t know there was one in Temecula!

I haven’t ever been to the one in Baker, either, just heard about it.

Dave, I’m surprised that it is only Johnny Rocket’s sized, that doesn’t sound very big. Is there enough space for a car show around there? I’m forgetting how the place is set up. Are the shops set back from the parking lot? Or are some of them right on the edge of the lot? Which would hopefully include Bob’s, if so.
